Renewable, low-impact biofuels, especially ethanol produced in industrialized algae farms, are poised to transform the transportation energy market and play a leading role in solving these problems. The need for renewable transportation fuels has never been greater. Our vision is to become a world leader in large-scale, affordable production of ethanol using photosynthesis as the energy source. Traditional corn ethanol consumes over 25% of the annual U.S. corn crop, and that percentage will grow unless alternative biofuels are developed. Even though crude oil price increases impact food prices more than rising corn prices, expanding corn-to-ethanol conversion could pressure food prices more than it does today.

Algenol Biolfuels solves this problem by allowing fuel to be produced without occupying land or consuming feedstocks needed for food or feed production. Algenol’s Direct to EthanolTM process is complementary to, not competitive with, corn production.

Ethanol production will take place in proprietary contained and sealed photobioreactor systems that do not require soil for growth and use 90% less water than conventional agriculture (the water that is used is seawater). These photobioreactors will be located on low-cost, arid terrain, not high-value agricultural land.
